Ricky Gervais Returns To Host 2012 Golden Globes
Ricky Gervais is back for another round of hosting the 2012 Golden Globes. Let’s hope the future nominees won’t be so uptight like the nominees were earlier this year. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Wednesday that Gervais will be back at the podium.
The group, composed of 83 entertainment journalists from around the world, voted Wednesday to bring back the performer for a third consecutive year, though a small but vocal minority dissented. Sixteen out of the 62 members who voted were opposed to Gervais’ return, according to a person who was present at the meeting but asked not to be identified because of the confidential nature of the proceedings. In a statement on the Golden Globes website, the HFPA said the group was moved to bring back Gervais after meeting with NBC official Doug Vaughan.
Gervais Tweeted, “Just told Billy Crystal he’d better not use any of my holocaust or pedophile material at The Oscars. He agreed (true),” along with posting a photo of himself with the upcoming Oscar Host and another shot that was used for last year’s Globes.
Following the 2011 raucous show, where the British actor took jabs at Robert Downey Jr., John Travolta, Tom Cruise and Charlie Sheen, HFPA President Philip Berk said, “He definitely crossed the line. “And some of the things were totally unacceptable. But that’s Ricky… I had absolutely no idea what Ricky was going to say so anything I heard was heard was the same time you heard it,” Berk said at the time. “When you hire Ricky Gervais, you expect the unexpected.”
I’m glad he’s back, can he host the Oscars as well. Nothing like a boring show will a room full of boring, stuffy people.
The Golden Globes will air on January 15, 2012 on NBC.
